Marriage relates to the extended state of being married to each other after the wedding. It is a day of remembrance where the marriage event occurred on the same day the previous year.

Marriage anniversary is the anniversary of the day when two individuals in a relationship formally accepted to live with each other for the rest of their lives.

Though both the idiomatic usages – wedding anniversary or marriage anniversary mean the same when you wish them, except the meaning of the word “marriage” and “wedding” which are not the same.

For some, a perfect marriage is a myth, legend, fable or false hope. But for many, it is a real thing that exists between the two souls.

You cannot use the marriage anniversary as just a plain word. For instance, while congratulating you should convey “congratulations on your wedding” rather than “congratulations on your marriage”. Though one can use them interchangeably while greeting, these two words have very different meanings as the term wedding refers to the occasion and marriage is the long journey after the wedding. So it is right to use the wedding anniversary which makes sense rather than using the term marriage anniversary.
